Dunshaughlin man charged with driving defective car
A JUDGE commented it was “very difficult to believe” that a 20 year-old motorist didn’t realise the poor state his car was in.
Court Presenter Sergeant Peter Clarke told the court that the vehicle wouldn’t stop in the event of an emergency.
A garda seized the car which was examined by the Garda Public Service Vehicle Inspector. He concluded from the defects of the vehicle that it wasn’t capable of stopping in an emergency.
Martin Reilly, Willow Grove, The Willows, Dunshaughlin was charged for having a dangerously defective vehicle on 5th March last year at Watergate Street, Navan where a Garda who encountered it said he was not happy with its condition, Trim District Court heard.
Barrister Paul Noctor said the defendant had a new child on the way. He didn’t realise the underneath of the car was in “such a desperate condition.”
Judge Fiona Brennan convicted the defendant, and imposed an €300 fine and banned him from driving for eight months.
Separately, a 56 year-old Athboy woman admitted a charge of careless driving after an accident where she rear ended a vehicle at Lower Bridge St in the town.
Janice Sykes of Bunboggan, Oldcastle Road, Athboy was fined €150.
