Perennial winners maintain 100% record in Feis Cup

In recent years, Donaghmore/Ashbourne have a fantastic record in the Feis Cup and on Wednesday they maintained their unbeaten record this year with a comfortable win over the SFC champions Summerhill. The vistors got off to a great start and led by three after three minutes. Donaghmore/Ashbourne closed the gap and scores from Kevin Fenton, Sean Tyrrell and Dominion Abagha gave the home side a narrow 0-6 to 0-5 lead at half-time.

A solid third quarter from Summerhill earned them a three-point advantage but the home side hit a purple patch in the final quarter and registered five points on the spin courtesy of Michael Deegan, Thomas McGovern, Darragh McGovern, Jack Doran and Shayne Brady.

Seneschalstown 0-13

Seneschalstown finished their Feis Cup campaign winless after Skryne put them to the sword on Wednesday. A goal just before the break edged the home side ahead and they held on to the lead for the remainder.

That goal was part of a purple patch that Skryne enjoyed at the end of the first half as they scored 1-2 on the spin to lead by four at half-time. Seneschalstown battled hard in the second-half but a late two-pointer for Skryne put the result beyond doubt.

Nobber 1-14

A converted Curraha penalty in the final quarter proved crucial as they narrowly defeated Nobber in the Tailteann Cup on Wednesday. Joe Tierney’s first-half goal gave the home side a boost and at half-time Nobber led 1-5 to 0-7. After 45 minutes had elapsed, the sides were still deadlocked with 1-8 apiece. Curraha’s penalty provided a cushion for the visitors and Karl Casserly’s late point was enough for Nobber to salvage a result.

Ballinlough 0-12

Adam Rogers scored 1-5 as St Ultan’s dispatched of Ballinlough with relative ease in the Tailteann Cup on Wednesday. The hosts registered a two-pointer midway through the first-half but St Ultan’s response was quick and effective as Tom Brennan fired to the top corner of the net.

Points from Rogers and Tommy Buchanan earned the vistors a two-point lead at the break. St Ultan’s pulled away from the opposition in the second-half with goals from Rogers and Jonny Foster and a two-pointer from Luke Cahill. Ruairi Buchannan also contributed three points from the bench.

Drumconrath 1-7

On his debut for the club, Paudie Rennicks rescued a draw for Cortown against Drumconrath on Wednesday night in the Tailteann Shield . With the wind at their backs, Drumconrath opened up a four-point gap but a late goal from Aaron Smith drew the home side level just before the break. Soon after the restart Drumconrath registered 1-1. Oran Brady received his marching orders midway through the half and Cortown used the extra man to their advantage as Rennick’s late point earned them a share of the spoils.
