Calls for government to urgently engage with home heating oil companies
Deputy David Maxwell is calling for immediate review and engagement following reports that home heating oil suppliers have increased their prices following recent events.
He said it is important that price changes are transparent and clearly linked to genuine shifts in supply costs.
He said: “I am already hearing of instances where home heating oil companies have increased their prices, seemingly in response to events in the Middle East over the weekend.
“Families are understandably concerned about international developments, but they should have clarity as to how and why any changes in heating oil prices are being made.
“Heating is not a luxury, it is a basic necessity, especially for older people, families with young children and those living in poorly insulated homes.”
Deputy Maxwell continued: “I believe it is important that Ministers outline what steps are being taken to monitor the situation closely, to engage with suppliers and to ensure that consumers are treated fairly.
“Clear communication and appropriate oversight will help maintain confidence and protect households.”
Deputy Maxwell has said that he looks forward to engagement with colleagues to ensure that families are supported and that the heating oil market operates in a transparent manner.
