Judge blasts ‘outageous abuse’ of man who threatened Ashbourne garda
A 41 year-old man who subjected a Garda to “outrageous abuse”, apologised to him and all involved at Trim District Court.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan asked Kenneth Dooley if he was doing a job ”would you like people to go into the job and be abused in similar fashion.”
Garda P Connellan, Ashbourne Garda Station told the court the defendant called him a “rat” and "chicken nugget” and told him to “f… off.”
The defendant said he would rape his sister, and when let go “he would come after me and my family,” recalled the Garda who observed the defendant on January 16 at Frederick Street, Ashbourne.
The Garda further outlined that the defendant refused to give his name and was abusive to other members.
The court heard that the defendant had 44 previous convictions.
Defence barrister Paul Noctor said the defendant, a warehouse manager, was very drunk on the date. It was the anniversary of the defendant’s brother death. He also suffered the loss of his sister.
Judge McKiernan said the only thing going for the defendant was that he pleaded guilty.
She said she would give him a chance as he was working. She requested a report to see whether he was suitable to do 100 hours community service in lieu of two months in jail.
