Trim man hadn’t bet on court date after win on the horses

A 26 year-old local man’s celebration of a win on the horses ended with him appearing before Trim District Court on public order offences.

The court heard that Robert Finnegan a construction worker from Manorlands Crescent in the town won €800 and bought a line of shots. He told

Judge Michael Connellan on Tuesday that the previous day he had a crash and would be out of work for six weeks.

The defendant was prosecuted after a Detective responded to a public order report close to 11pm on 1st February last. At Castle Street outside a public house in the town the defendant was on top of a man who he had pinned down.

The Detective heard him shouting “you won’t do that again.” He was extremely aggressive towards the Garda, shouting profanities, and was extremely intoxicated, Sergeant Alan Ratcliffe outlined.

The Sergeant said the defendant had no previous convictions. Solicitor Miriam Regan said the defendant the following day went and extended a full apology to the Garda.

Miss Regan said he was not working presently. He broke a finger and hadn’t worked the last number of weeks. Judge Connellan on the defendant handing over €250 for charity applied the probation act.
