Gardai alerted to suspicious activity on credit union account
A 24 year-old woman whose Revolut account was used as a mule account to transfer money was given until the end of April to come up with over €4,000.
Chloe Brady from Killcarrig Green, Tallaght was charged with a money laundering offence on 17th February 2023 following the moving of €4,050 out of an account at Saint Mary’s Credit Union, Navan.
She pleaded guilty on Tuesday at Trim District Court where she handed in €1,000. Solicitor Maurice Regan asked for time for her to pay back the full amount. Judge Michael Connellan said in the event the money was paid back the defendant would be convicted and fined €300.
The Judge heard that it was brought to the attention of Garda that there was a suspicious transaction on a customer’s account in the credit union. It was confirmed €4,050 was moved into a Revolut account. The defendant when interviewed couldn’t understand how the money went into her account. It was stated that the injured party had not been reimbursed. Defence solicitor Maurice Regan said the defendant had a clear record.
