Navan teen who bravely battled rare form of cancer passes away

The heartbroken parents of 18 year old Emily Rose Dunne Gaule from Navan have announced her death which took place on Sunday evening.

“Emily passed away painlessly and peacefully at our home at 8.20 last night,” her mother Jacky posted.

Emily, a student of the St Joseph's Mercy at the time, was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer just shortly before she was due to sit her Leaving Cert last summer.

Emily is the daughter of Jacky Dunne and Keith Gaule, and sister of Kayley Dunne, who were with her when she passed away.

“We told her how she was the most beautiful, kind and compassionate, amazing daughter and sister inside and out; how funny, clever, creative and wonderfully artistic a young woman she was.

“I cannot think of many 17 into 18 year-olds who were as strong, brave and calm considering her tragic diagnosis. “She was told she would not see 2026, she was told months later she would not see Christmas. Emily was having none of that nonsense. She was present and enjoyed her last Christmas.

“She celebrated Valentine's Day with her close friend Nicole who was loyal to her regardless of college and waitressing, she always made time to get to see Emily, as did her friend Seona. Two girls with hearts of pure gold.

“Emily is finally at peace now.”

“Life will go on but it will never, ever be the same.”

Emily Rose was predeceased by her nanny, Úna Gaule and great granny, Agnes Daly.

She will be very sadly missed by her heartbroken parents and sister, her pet Milo, grandparents Vincent and Mary Dunne, grand dad, Liam Gaule, aunties, uncles, cousins, neighbours and a large circle of friends.

Her remains will be reposing at St. Joseph’s Chapel of Rest, Old Johnstown, Navan (C15 C425) on Wednesday 25th February from 3pm with a Celebration of Emily's life at 5pm.

A private resomation will take place.

The house is private at all times.

Emily has requested that everyone attending the Funeral wear blue or colourful clothing.

A Gofundme had been set up last year to help the family with expenses during her illness and treatment.

Thanking all those who helped, her mother welcomed all who donated, or those who simply loved Emily, to join with them in celebrating her short but extremely meaningful life.
