Dangerous condition of Navan estate footpaths raised at council meeting

The dangerous condition of footpaths in the Priory Estate in Johnstown, Navan was highlighted at a meeting of Navan Municipal Council last week.

Cllr Alan Lawes asked when the estate would be taken over by Meath County Council.

He was told the council's planning department had a valid taking in charge request which was received in June 2021. "The council is unable to put a time frame on processing this, but planning will expedite the taking in charge process," he was told.

Following the meeting, Cllr Lawes said the footpaths in the estate were in a very dangerous condition.

"There have been numerous people who have had falls in the estate, some of them very bad falls.

"The paths are desperate. I have raised this on numerous occasions and so have other councillors," he said.

"The request was made in 2021. It is very frustrating that five years later, we still have no idea when the estate will be taken over or when the work will be done. We are getting the same answer we have been given umpteen times. We are talking about all the paths that are being repaired in Navan but the paths in Priory are desperate. We need to look at this and see how it can be expedited so the next time one of us asks this question, we get a better answer than that.

"The roads are full of potholes and the paths need fixing. It is getting worse all the time." he said.
