Death of Liam Brady, a towering figure in Bohermeen parish and Meath GAA

A towering figure of the Bohermeen community and Meath GAA was lost with the passing last night of Liam Brady of Greetiagh.

Liam (82) died at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan, after an illness of about a month.

Paying tribute, St Ultan's GFC said that while Liam was “first and foremost a great family man, he also had a deep sense of community and played a huge role in football in the parish.”

Liam won a Junior medal with Bohermeen in 1965, and an Intermediate in 1973. He played fullback on the Bohermeen team which was defeated by Summerhill in the senior final the following year 1974.

Involved in the formation of the Bohermeen Martry Harps club in 1975, he played in the senior semi-final of that year and was narrowly beaten by Navan O Mahonys, and he also played in the 1976 senior semi-final where they were defeated by Summerhill.

Liam was a very accomplished and respected referee he took charge of three senior finals - 1973,1980 and 1982.

He held many positions including chairman in the Bohermeen, Bohermeen Martry Harps and in later years with St Ultan's. Liam was also the driving force behind the St Ultan's Blotto and the Astro turf pitch in Sean Newman Park.

Bohermeen Celtic offered deepest sympathies to its chairman David Brady ansd his family on the passing of his father.

“A big supporter of the club, Liam will be sorely missed by everyone associated with Bohermeen Celtic. Ever present, be it with helpful advice, words of encouragement or with a paintbrush, shovel or mower in hand, Liam was integral to the development of Derek Brady Park and the growth of the club in recent years,” the soccer club stated.

Son of the late Peter and Kathleen Brady, Liam was predeceased by his son, Derek; brother, Brian, and sister, Mary.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Harte); sons, Alan and David; daughter, Susan, grandchildren, Arran, Chris, Ryan, Sophie, Erica, Derek and Senan, daughters-in-law, Caroline and Julie, brother Richard, sister Una, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is reposing at St Joseph’s Chapel of Rest, Old Johnstown, Navan (C15 C425) on Thursday 12th February from 2pm-6pm, arriving to St Ultan’s Church, Bohermeen on Friday morning for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. House private at all times.
