Athboy Community School prepares to take audiences ‘Back to Broadway’
Athboy Community School is putting the final touches to its latest musical production, Back to Broadway, which will take to the stage later this month.
The show, a lively medley of scenes and songs from some of the most popular stage musicals, will run for three nights from February 25 to 27 in the school’s General Purpose Area, which will be transformed into a fully equipped performance space with professional lighting and sound.
More than 130 students will take part in the two-hour production, showcasing numbers from well-known musicals including Grease, Les Misérables, Wicked, Six, Matilda and The Little Mermaid. Rehearsals have been ongoing since late September, with preparations intensifying as opening night approaches.
Among those appearing in the production is Transition Year student Emeline Hood, who plays Sandy in the Grease section of the show. Speaking ahead of the performances, Emeline said she was looking forward to taking to the stage and being part of the ensemble.
“I love acting, singing and dancing, and I can’t wait to be part of all the action on stage. My favourite number in the show is We Go Together, and all the effort put into the choreography has really brought it to life,” she said.
Also taking to the stage is first-year student Neeah Mulvey, who plays the title role in the Matilda section of the production. Neeah, who has been involved in musical theatre for several years, said she is enjoying the experience and looking forward to performing.
“My favourite song is Naughty!, which I perform with Jenny Bradley and Millie Robinson. It’s great fun to perform and the choreography works so well with the music,” she said.
With strong interest already reported, large audiences are expected across the three-night run. Tickets are priced at €15 and are available from the school office or online. For further information, contact 046-9487894.
