New Year Messages: Supporting communities and ensuring Navan remains a modern, connected town

A very Happy New Year to all in the Navan Municipal District. As Mayor of Meath’s county town, I am proud of the progress we made in 2025—a year that showcased Navan as a hub of housing, infrastructure, and innovation.

One of the most significant milestones was the official opening of the Farganstown Housing Development, delivering 84 high-quality homes as part of an €81 million investment across Navan, Clonee, and Ashbourne. This project reflects Meath County Council’s commitment to providing secure, affordable housing and creating vibrant communities.

We also marked the opening of the LDR4 route, a 1.2km distributor road designed to reduce congestion, improve connectivity, and enhance safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians. We are continuing to monitor traffic movements in order to optimise performance, and we thank you for your patience during this bedding in period.

Active Travel took centre stage with the completion of Phase One of the €7.3 million Trim Road Cycle and Pedestrian Scheme, providing segregated cycle tracks, upgraded crossings, and safer routes to schools and the town centre. We also opened the county’s first Learn to Cycle Track at Blackwater Park, giving children a safe space to develop cycling skills and promoting sustainable transport from an early age.

Navan embraced sustainability with the installation of 42 new bin surrounds in the town centre as part of the Deposit Return Scheme, making on-the-go recycling easier and more visible. This initiative supports our climate action goals and promotes cleaner streets and stronger recycling habits. I welcome the reformation of the Navan Tidy Towns group which continues to gain traction from the many volunteers within our community turning out for monthly litter picks.

Looking ahead to 2026, we will continue to advance regeneration projects, including enhancements at Flowerhill and Abbeylands, and progress plans for the Navan Rail Line, the enhancement of the ramparts area and the installation of the new footbridge in Blackwater Park.

Cultural life remains central to our identity, with Solstice Arts Centre leading the way in arts and community engagement. Digital transformation will further improve services, ensuring Navan remains a modern, connected town.

Thank you for your support and collaboration. I would like to wish all our residents, families and communities a healthy new year.

Together, we will make 2026 a year of progress, sustainability, and pride for Navan—the beating heart of Meath.
