Busy Christmas for NEDOC
The North East Doctor on Call service (NEDOC) had a very Christmas season.
There were 2,345 calls to the service over the four day Christmas period from 6pm on Christmas Eve until 9am on Monday with over 1,830 GP consultations with patients.
Drogheda and Navan were the busiest centres with 637 GP consultations from the Cottage Hospital NEDOC Centre in Drogheda, and 600 in the Navan NEDOC centre.
Both Castleblayey with 325 consultations and Cavan with almost 300 consultations were extremely busy.
26th December saw the highest demand over the four days with over 660 consultations on that day.
Overall this year was almost on a par with the previous four-day Christmas period in 2023.
There were high levels of respiratory and flu presentations and it is anticipated that patients will continue to present with flu symptoms over the coming new year weekend.
