Pay compensation or receive jail time for t-shirts theft

A 21 year-old Italian man was alleged to be one of two men who stole t-shirts to the value €725 from a Navan store.

Salvatore Attanasio, a meat factory worker, with an address at Connaught Grove, Athboy, appeared before Trim District Court charged with the theft of the t-shirts from TK Maxx at Navan Retail Park on 11th July last.

The court heard that two men entered the store and went upstairs. They placed the t-shirts in bags and left without paying.

The goods were not recovered or the store compensated, Court Presenter Sergeant Declan Brady stated.

Defence barrister James O’Brien said the defendant had a small part of the compensation in court.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan put the case back to 10th February, saying she would apply the probation act if full compensation was paid. Alternatively the defendant would receive a two month jail sentence.
