Gluais, a traditional Irish music group based in Scoil Mhuire Trim, and school principal Mr Mícheál Kerr were recently recognised at the Trim Municipal District Pride of Place Awards, held in the Trim Castle Hotel, where the group received First Prize for Best Youth Project.

The presentation was made to Mr Kerr on behalf of Gluais and recognised the outstanding contribution the group has made to the local community. Established as a creative outlet for students, Gluais provides young people with an opportunity to develop their talents in music, dance and song, while also encouraging teamwork, confidence and community involvement.

Over the years, Gluais has performed at numerous events throughout Trim and the surrounding areas, helping to celebrate many important local occasions. Judges commended the strong involvement of young people, describing it as a significantly positive contribution to the life of the town.

The award also acknowledged the group’s extensive fundraising efforts, which have raised funds for a wide range of worthy charities. These initiatives reflect Gluais’s strong ethos of giving back and using creativity for positive social impact.

On the night, Mr Kerr also received a separate Volunteer of the Year award, recognising the exceptional time, dedication and leadership he has given to Gluais. His commitment has been central to the group’s success, providing students with a safe and supportive platform to flourish creatively.

Through Gluais, students of Scoil Mhuire Trim have been encouraged to express themselves, build confidence and engage meaningfully with their community. The awards marked a proud moment for the school, recognising the energy of its young people and the tireless work of those who support them.
