Kells Men's Shed success

Kells Men's Shed were the delighted winners of a €25,000 shed in a recent competition.

The Kells group won the "Adam Steel Shed Competition" at the Irish Men's Shed National Conference Focus on Men's Mental Health on Wednesday 19th November at the Royal Marine Hotel, Dún Laoghaire.

Kells Men’s Shed has launched a significant fundraising initiative. The group, which currently operates out of a rented space at Eureka House, has recently been granted a site and planning permission from Meath County Council for a new built shed in Kells. The fund-raising campaign aims to raise sufficient monies to commence the building programme for a purpose-built workshop for members to carry out their various construction and craft activities. The new building will support the continued growth and activities of the Shed, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for the local community.

For the recent competition the group made a short film about Kells Men Shed and need to have a permanent home.

Chairman Seamus McDonagh stated, “This generous prize will greatly enhance our ability to provide a facility for our members which will give us more space and opportunities for our various projects and events”.

“This prize is a great boost towards the cost of the new shed, but we have a job of work ahead of us to raise the €200,000 needed to create the new Kells Men’s Shed and community hub”.

The Men’s Sheds offer a range of benefits to its members and the wider community. It serves as a welcoming space for men to connect, share skills, and participate in meaningful activities. The Shed fosters social inclusion, supports mental well-being, and encourages lifelong learning through practical projects and camaraderie. In the coming months KMS will be rolling out various fund-raising activities and is looking forward to the support of the whole community.
