Julianstown Community Garden is named recipient of An Taisce International Green Flag Award

Julianstown’s Community Garden was last week named the recipient of an An Taisce International Green Flag Award. The scheme aims to encourage the provision of good quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways, and is a non-profit international accreditation programme managed by the UK environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, delivered in partnership through a network of national operators around the world.

The Green Flag Award scheme aims to encourage the provision of good quality public parks and green spaces that are managed in environmentally sustainable ways. In Ireland, An Taisce is the national operator, and has delivered the Green Flag Award since 2016.

The international Green Flag Award was awarded to 128 Irish parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries around the country on Wednesday 12th November, an increase of eight awards since last year. The awards ceremony took place at Maynooth University Campus in County Kildare.

Aisling Monahan (chairperson), Julianstown and District Community Association and Niamh Bn Uí Loinsigh (vice-chairperson) were delighted to be invested to Maynooth University Campus for the awards event. There they were awarded their Green Flag Award for the Julianstown Community Garden for 2025/26. As well as this they were also awarded with a highly commended award from Biodiversity Ireland for the Community Garden.

“A very big thank you to everyone for all your support, ideas and efforts during the past year in helping us achieve the Green Community Amenity Award for our wonderful Garden, Aisling said. "We are a great team full of talent in so many ways. We have lots of ideas for next year and welcome all input. Julianstown is regarded as a very special community by people near and far and it’s wonderful to be part of it”.
