Trim man drove under influence of drugs

Edward McCabe of Clonbun, Trim was sentenced to four months in jail at Trim District Court resulting from a collision in the town in May last.

The 43 year old was already serving a sentence and Judge Eirinn McKiernan directed the new sentence run consecutively to it.

The defendant was before the court for driving or attempting to drive while under the influence of drugs and also dangerous driving on 14th May this year at Castle Street in the town.

The court heard that the defendant had taken his father’s car without permission on the occasion.

He had a large number of previous convictions and was battling addiction for years. He was due for release from prison in June next.

His solicitor Maurice Regan asked the Judge not to extend his stay in prison.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan also banned the defendant from driving for two years.
