Robinstown were crowned champions of the Youth Girls Premier League in style on Sunday with a comfortable win over Parkvilla. It was the first time in 31 years that the club's first team finished top of a Premier League. In 1994, Robinstown, back then called Shambo, won the Senior Women's Premier League. Sunday’s result saw the team complete the double as they already won the Teddy Seery Cup this season.
Robinstown got off to the best possible start when Aisling McElwaine found the net after eight minutes. Five minutes later, Emma Kosturik got on the end of a corner swung in by Sophie Brady and made it 2-0 . In the 30th minute, McElwaine scored a cracking goal when she curled the ball into the top corner from distance.
Pakrvilla responded with a goal of their own but just before half-time Kosturik scored her second to make it 4-1. Robinstown kept their foot on the pedal in the second-half as McElwaine completed her hat-trick and added a fourth. Isabel Fitzgerald put the icing on the cake for Robinstown when she struck a long-range free kick into the top corner.
The Ladies team in Robinstown was established four years ago. They finished runners-up in the league for last two years before they got over the line ths year on Sunday and were presented with the NERL Youth Girls cup.
