There was extensive damage to their home

Community rally for family after fire badly damages their home

The community of Castletown is rallying around a local family whose home was badly damaged by fire recently.

Sabrina Clusker and family lost most of their possessions in the blaze, but thankfully everyone was safe.

In just a few minutes, Sabrina and her daughters, Sophie, Shannon, Holly and Kelsey lost so much: their beds, furniture, clothes, school uniforms, bags, and personal belongings. Unfortunately, the house was not insured, so replacing everything will be a heavy financial burden on top of the emotional toll this has taken. The family is now staying with relatives, but they are all anxious to move back to their own home.

The fire broke out on Friday evening 24th October and while everyone is safe, and the fire was contained to one room — there has been a lot of damage.

"To make things even harder, this tragedy struck just one week before the third anniversary of the children’s father’s passing. It’s an incredibly painful reminder of how much this family has already endured," says neighbour, Claire Smith. A Gofundmepage has been set up by Sabrina's sister in law, Catherine Hoey.

"We’re reaching out to ask for your support — no matter how small. Every donation will go directly toward helping the girls rebuild their room, replace what was lost, and bring some comfort and stability back into their lives. Your kindness and generosity will mean more than words can express, "she said.

Catherine, who is helping manage the restoration project explains the the funds raised will be used for plumbing and woodwork repairs, window replacement, attic insulation, electrical repairs, bedroom furniture, mattresses and bedding, cleaning and painting, fire brigade fees and refills of neighbours fire extinguishers.

"There is a lot of smoke damage and all fabrics have to go," Claire Smith said. "It happened very quickly, one bedroom was completely engulfed in flames, it was horrific. Thankfully, everyone is safe, but the fire destroyed a room that belonged to two of the girls, taking away their beds, furniture, clothes and personal items."

"The family is now dealing with the emotional impact of this tragedy, along with the financial strain of replacing everything without insurance. Your support can make a real difference in helping them rebuild their lives. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward restoring their room and providing some comfort during this challenging time," she said.
