Scoil Eoin Báiste, Nobber’s Ben Monaghan received the Spirit of the Final award from the Meath Chronicle’s Tom Gannon. Gerry ShanahanA fast start to the contest was crucial for Scoil Cholmcille in a thrilling Div 4/5 Shield final in Trim on Wednesday last which ended 6-12 to 5-2.
The side in blue and white led 3-4 to 1-0 after 12 minutes and despite a fantastic effort from Scoil Eoin Baiste to get back into the contest, the eventual winners never took their foot off the pedal.
Peter Crosby, who finished with a fine tally of 2-8, hit 1-3 in that dominant 12-minute period. Charlie Collins and Cian Deasy also found the net for Scoil Cholmcille.
Tiarnach McEntee scored the goal for Scoil Eoin Baiste before Adam Finegan raised a brace of green flags in quick succession to bring his side right back into the contest. However Scoil Cholmcille then hit 2-2 on the spin before the break as Crosby and Collins both contributed more majors. At half-time Scoil Cholmcille led 5-6 to 3-0.
The second-half was not as eventful on the scoreboard but Scoil Cholmcille did enough to keep their opponents at bay as Crosby hit another four points and Daniel McGuinness pretty much put the game to bed with his team's sixth goal.
Scoil Eoin Baiste can hold their heads very high for the way they never gave up and goals from Tom Condra and Faye Condra were highlights in a fine second-half performance from the Nobber outfit.
