O’Growney NS Athboy outscored St Joseph’s 1-4 to 0-1 in the final 10 minutes and claimed a narrow 3-7 to 3-5 victory over St Joseph's Navan in the Girls Div 1 Shield final at Trim on Wednesday last.

Captain Mya Kelly inspired her side to glory and her goal in the 40th minute kick-started that superb finish by O’Growney NS.It wasn’t the most high-scoring clash and the sides took some time to figure each other out but in the sixth minute, St Joseph’s Alesha Lynch found the back of the net with a rebound after Lily Dandy’s initial effort for a point rattled off the post.

O’Growney NS settled into the clash and two Kelly frees were followed by a point for Alannah-Mai O’Rourke and a goal for Shania Kerr as they raced into a five-point lead.

Two goals in very quick succession handed the advantage back to St Joseph's. Dandy scored the first and set up Aoibhinn Reilly for the second.

A very well-worked second O’Growney NS major which was polished off by Eabha Gough sent the sides in at the break level, 2-4 to 3-1.

St Joseph’s got off to a flyer after the restart and they led by three after a trio of nice Dandy points. It was O’Growney who finished with a flourish though. A Kelly goal and points from Gough, O’Rourke and Poppy Nugent got the Athboy side over the line.
