New Year price hike for Meath motorway commuters
Toll prices will increase on the M3 Clonee to Kells motorway by 10 cents for all motorists alongside increases to the M50, Dublin tunnel, and the M4 Kilcock to Kinnegad.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) announced the toll increases will go into effect starting 1st January next year.
Most categories of vehicles on the M50 will see a 10 cent increase with heavy goods vehicles exceeding 10,000kg holding a video account receiving a 20 cent increase. Unregistered motor cars without a tag or video account will not see an increase.
The Dublin tunnel toll will increase during peak hours for citybound traffic from €13 to €14 with off peak charges remaining unchanged. TII said this is due to increased levels of traffic during AM southbound peak hours and are intended to ensure HGVs travelling to and from Dublin port are not impeded by traffic.
The M4 Kilcock to Kinnegad is also seeing a 10 cent increase and a 20 cent increase on HGV’s of more than 3,500kg having 4 axels or more.
TII said the tolls pay for the annual protection and renewal of national roads. Rates are regulated through an inflation mechanism, meaning that they cannot go above the rate of inflation.
