Navan mother of six commited store theft while on temporary release

A mother of six had her bail revoked after stealing from Tesco in Navan while on temporary release.

Martina McDonagh of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft on 19th July this year.

Trim District Court heard on that date Ms McDonagh entered Tesco, Navan and stole items including cosmetics to the value of €86.

She had 165 previous convictions with the most recent being on 17th June this year for theft for which she was sentenced to a month in jail. She also received an eight month prison sentence earlier this year. She was on temporary release but this was revoked by the High Court.

Barrister Paul Noctor said the defendant was sorry. She was homeless and ended up on the streets of Dublin. She was trying to turn her life around.

Judge Eirinn McKiernan imposed a one month sentence continuous with her current sentence.
