The Leitrim town won the award for Tidiest Small Town, while Rosscarbery, Co Cork was awarded Ireland’s Tidiest Village, Dalkey, Co Dublin was judged as Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town and Tralee, Co Kerry is Ireland’s Tidiest Large Urban Centre.
Other Meath successes today included a silver medal for Dunshaughlin, bronze medals for Batterstown, Castletown, Slane and Enfield and an Endeavour Award for Bettsytown.
Brian Heffernan, chairman of Trim Tidy Towns, said they were delighted with their result as they had finished just five point behind the national winners. "We are very happy."
He said Meath had performed extremely well this year with eight medals and an endeavour award.
"It is fantastic. This is the best results we have ever had in Meath. It is great to see so many places around the county doing very well. Everywhere in Meath is becoming a nice place to live and work."
Mr Heffernan paid tribute to Meath County Council for its investment in Pride of Place over the years.
"It has made an enormous impact and those medals are a direct result of that input ," he said.
