Charged with multiple road traffic offences

A Longford man with 76 previous convictions caused a road collision while under the influence of cocaine, opioids, and methamphetamine.

Dylan Conaghy (28) from Balinree Edgeworthstown, Longford, was charged with multiple road traffic offences including driving while under the influence of an intoxicant and dangerous driving.

Garda Ryan told the court that on 28th May last year, a two vehicle road collision occurred on the M2 at Baltrasna, Ashbourne.

The injured party told the court she was driving on the M2 to her sister’s house with a friend when she felt a collision in the back right hand side of the car. She lost control of the vehicle and it spun and rolled multiple times into a grass verge. She required fire brigade assistance to get out of her vehicle and she had a sore leg, neck pain, and shoulder pain following the incident.

Dylan Conaghy was questioned by Gardai at the scene of the collision and said he was Dylan Mulready.

The accused was tested for intoxicants and an oral fluid test came back positive for cocaine, opioids, and methamphetamine. Mr Conaghy was transferred to Connolly Hospital where he was treated by doctors. A further blood sample showed the presence of 843ng of cocaine per millilitre.

The Court heard Mr Conaghy’s statement said a car pulled out in front of him and crashed into him and he cannot remember what happened at the hospital.

The defence told the court there was no note in the Garda statement that there was a request to see Mr Conaghy at the hospital which is a cause for concern on the charge. Garda Ryan said this was not necessary to mention in his statement because he would otherwise have to force his way into the hospital room.

He was found guilty on 9th October in Trim District Court in his absence and a bench warrant for sentencing was issued.
