Six months in prison for unprovoked assault in Trim
A 28-year-old man was given a six month prison sentence after punching a man unprovoked, leaving the victim with several physical and psychological injuries.
Sean Allen (28), from Tower View, Trim, pleaded guilty to an assault taking place on 9th September 2023. The court heard Mr Allen went up to the injured party at night and punched him in the face the in an unprovoked assault.
The injured party told the court his jaw was broken on the left side and caused the victim to suffer from depression, anxiety, and PTSD. He also could not play in the Junior Hurling Finals due to this incident and he told the court he has “trouble with my mouth even now” and may need surgery again.
The court heard the injured party knew the accused beforehand and did not speak to or see him that night before the incident. He told the court he messaged Mr Allen asking why he punched him but the accused gave no reply.
The defence told the court the accused is sorry for what happened and he cannot excuse his behaviour. He has no previous convictions.
Judge Eirinn McKiernan noted the fact that the injured party is continuing to suffer while the accused is unable to pay compensation and told the court the offences warrants a custodial sentence.
