Giles and O’Bric to lead future Royal stars in 2026

The Meath GAA Management Committee proposed management teams for the Meath u-17 and u-20 squads on Wednesday evening

At a Meath GAA management committee meeting on Wednesday, October 8th, it was proposed that Trevor Giles and Cathal O’Bric were proposed to be appointed as u-17 and u-20 managers respectively.

The Skryne man was in charge of the u-16 side, who made it all the way to the Gerry Reilly Cup final this year. Meath lost out to Louth in extra-time in that final, which was played at Oldcastle. Joining Giles in the management team will be Owen Creevey (Trim), Ben Hoey (Simonstown Gaels), Ronan Kearns (St Patrick’s) and Cormac O’Sullivan (St Patrick’s).

Cathal O’Bric will look to build upon the success that he has had as Meath u-20’s manager. Following on from the previous season's Leinster success, O’Bric guided the 20’s back to a second successive Leinster final in 2025 but this year's crop were unable to repeat the feat of 12 months previous after they lost out to Louth in Newbridge. O’Bric will be joined on the management team by Shane Barrett (Na Fianna), Trevor Bannon (Ballinabrackey), Vinny Mooney (St Peter’s Dunboyne) and Niall Flynn (Dunsany).

Sean ‘Crash’ Corrigan was proposed to reprise his role as Meath u-20 manager. His backroom team will include Paul Reilly (St Peter’s Dunboyne), Alan Ennis (Trim), and Calvin Ryan (Killyon). Fergal Fagan (Dunderry) and Niall McKeigue (Ratoath) are to be joint managers with the u-17 hurling side.

All management teams are expected to be ratified next Wednesday.
