Take a trip down memory lane as Navan's 21 Club is revived

Weekly evening of nostalgia at The Central

The famous '21 Club' held on Thursday nights in the Beechmount Hotel in Navan through the 1980s and '90s is set for a revival. The 21 Club returns on Thursday nights in the newly renovated Vintage Lounge in The Central Bar Navan.

Kicking off on Thursday 25th September from 9pm-11.30pm enjoy slow sets, throwbacks from the 80s and 90s .. and even the National Anthem.

Do you know what it felt like to live without the Internet, Spotify or Tinder in your pocket in the 90s?

If planning a night out in Navan you dialled your friend's house phone, hoping their parents didn’t answer and made plans … always ending up in the 21 Club, recalls Yvonne Flanagan, frequent 21 Clubber and current manager at The Central Navan.

"On Thursdays we headed to Vivienne in the Yellow Clothing Company, where Ambrose Clinton is now based, to buy a new top or pair of jeans. Meeting up was where all the fun began, we had a choice of many fine establishments such as Robbie O Malley’s with resident band Who’s Who, Micky Marmions (where Micky & Se usually accompanied you to the 21 Club), the Club Bar in The Russell Hotel to the beats of REM’s 'Losing My Religion', Barney Reilly’s for a game of pool, Caesar's Disco Bar in Penny Lane Cornmarket or O'Flaherty’s Bar. There were very few taxis so it was a bag of Valley chips and a walk to Beechmount.

What are YOUR memories of the 21 Club? Was it the slow set, the supper ticket, the Cloakroom queue, Mad dog 20/20, the ‘bouncers’ Albert Cherry and Pete Kane or was it the music including hits like P Diddy 'I’ll Be Missing You', Macy Gray 'I Try', The Outhere Brothers 'Don’t Stop', Robbie Williams 'Angels', Alanis Morisette 'Ironic', REM 'Losing My Religion', Right Said Fred 'I’m Too Sexy' or Bryan Adams 'Summer of 69', not forgetting the line dancing hits like 'Cotton Eye Joe' by Rednex and the 'Macarena' by Los Del Rio.

Thankfully mobile phones were like hens teeth and social media was unheard of. For better or worse Nostalgia makes us feel young again and reminds us to keep in touch with and be kinder to our younger inner selves and never stop having fun.
