Arrest in relation to Boardsmill hit and run

A man in his 40s has been arrested as part of the investigation into the the fatal collision at Batterstown, Ballivor on Friday morning, which claimed the life of 80 year old Ned McLoughlin.

The arrested man is currently detained at a Garda Station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 and can be detained for up to 24 hours. A vehicle has also been recovered.

Gardaí are continuing to investigate the fatal road traffic collision. The late Mr McLoughin of Doolistown, Trim who had been cycling was discovered unresponsive, and removed to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.

Investigating Gardaí at Trim Garda Station continue to appeal to the public for information.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area of Batterstown, Ballivor, between 9.30am and 10am on Friday 12th September 2025, are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
