Nobber Heritage Centre to host Siamsa Glas concert

Harpist Mary Horgan and Accora Orchestra to perform

Nobber Heritage Centre presents the Accora Orchestra and harpist Mary Horgan in concert on Saturday 13th September at 7.30pm as part of the Siamsa Glas Festival which celebrates the Boyne Valley to Lakelands Greenway and the Meath Gaeltacht of Baile Ghib.

Accora Orchestra was originally formed as the Castletown Accordion Orchestra in 1981 and now consists of five separate bands from beginner to senior. The orchestra travels worldwide to various music festivals and the U-21 band was recently crowned world champions at the World Music Festival in Austria earlier this summer. For the Siamsa Glas concert, the senior Band will perform music from their repertoire of Irish as well as contemporary music genres.

Mary Horgan is a primary school teacher and harpist from Nobber. She learned the harp under the guidance of Dearbhail Finnegan and went on to study music and Irish at University College Dublin. Mary has performed both nationally and internationally with the Meath Harp Ensemble, with appearances in Ireland, Italy, and Australia. She has also enjoyed success in several prestigious competitions, winning awards at the Feis Ceoil RDS, the O’Carolan Harp Festival in Keadue, and her local festival in Nobber. Mary will perform notable Irish music pieces including some compositions of Nobber born Turlough O’Carolan.
