McEntee joins Bannigan in Monaghan
McEntee departed his role with St Peter's this week after their exit from the Meath SFC
Former Meath manager, Andy McEntee, has taken up a position with Monaghan under another former Donaghmore/Ashbourne manager, Gabriel Bannigan.
McEntee was part of the St Peter's management team, who last weekend got knocked out of the Meath SFC. St Peter’s comfortably won their final group game against Gaeil Colmcille but it wasn't enough to see them progress and afterwards, Ger Robinson and his management team, including McEntee, resigned.
McEntee vacated his role as Antrim manager earlier this year following their championship exit and he will replace the departed Andy Moran in the Monaghan set-up. Moran left Bannigan’s managerial team to take charge of his native Mayo.
Having guided the Meath minors to an All-Ireland final in 2012, McEntee experienced All-Ireland club success as manager of Ballyboden St Enda's in 2016. The Dunboyne native subsequently took charge of Meath and had a considerable stint as manager between 2017 and 2022. He oversaw their promotion to Division 1 in 2019 and the Super 8s the same year.
Monaghan were comfortable winners over Meath when they visited Navan back in March in the FL Division 2. They went onto become Division 2 champions and as a result, gained promotion to Division 1. In the All-Ireland series, Monaghan topped their group to progress straight to the quarter-final, where they were beaten by Jim McGuinness’ Donegal who then also ended Meath’s campaign in the semi-final.
