Nobber mourns loss of young local man following workplace accident

The young man who lost his life following a workplace accident in Kingscourt yesterday has been named locally as 25-year-old Jack McIlroy from Nobber.

The north Meath village hangs under a dark cloud today as the tight-knit community struggles to come to terms with news of Jack's death following an accident at work.

Widespread tributes have been paid to the 25-year-old who was heavily involved with the local Electro Celtic soccer Club where he had been serving as secretary and there has been a massive outpouring of sympathy to his parents Alan and Deirdre (Weldon).

In a statement on behalf of the NEFL, secretary Justin Burke said it was with extreme sadness that he was passing on the very sad news of the passing of Electro Celtic Secretary Jack McIlroy following a workplace accident.

Paying tribute to Jack, he said: "Jack was only 25 years old and took on the role of Secretary at his club last year due to his passion for soccer and brought a level of professionalism to the role in his time as Club secretary, and took on many roles within his club.

"Our immediate thoughts and prayers are with his parents Alan and Deirdre, his family, friends, team mates and all at Electro Celtic football club during this sad time."

As a mark of respect, a minute's applause will be observed by all clubs at NEFL fixtures this weekend.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the accident at Paramount Doors Ireland in Kingscourt shortly before midday yesterday (Wednesday), August 27th, where Jack had suffered an injury.

He was transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda for treatment, but subsequently passed away.
