Meath Councillor "begging" people to join protest outside Belfast City Hall this Sunday

Meath Councillor Alan Lawes calls for Irish people and politicians to join him in a protest in support of Palestine Action (PAG), who were banned by the British government, outside Belfast city this Sunday.

Cllr. Lawes attended the weekly Palestinian support protest yesterday in Newry and displayed t-shirts and posters supporting Palestine Action.

Lawes said in a video posted to Facebook following the protest “We stood side by side with protesters in Newry last night carrying the banner saying ‘I oppose genocide’ and ‘I support Palestine Action’.

“Irish people and Irish parliamentarians in particular, councillors, senators, we have a duty on the island of Ireland to protect our right for peaceful protest and I am begging yous to join the protests outside the city hall in Belfast at 5 O’clock on Sunday.

Palestine Action (PAG) is proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK and protests have been ongoing to have the ban lifted. To date, over 700 people have been arrested in connection with supporting Palestine Action. Over 532 people were arrested in London over the weekend alone for carrying placards opposing the banning of the activist group.

“We cannot depend on others to do something, we have to do it,” Lawes continued. “I want to march with you, hand in hand, and actually do something.

“The time for action is now or else more people and more children and more women are going to be slaughtered and forcibly starved.”
