Moynalvey expected to keep the pressure on
It's all up for grabs in round two of the Meath IFC and plenty of sides can almost guarantee a quarter-final spot if they get wins this weekend, writes Tom Gannon.
The action kicks off with Moynalvey and Walterstown in Group A on Thursday evening. Moynalvey are among the favourites to go all the way in this year's IFC, whereas Walterstown suffered a heavy defeat to St Patrick's last time out to put a dent in their ambitions. This one should be straightforward for Barry O'Keeffe's side.
Also in group A is the clash between St Patrick's and Ballivor. With players at their disposal like Jamie Murphy, Donal Landy and Sean Emmanuel, St Patrick's might have too much talent going forward for Ballivor to handle.
The 2024 SFC relegated side Curraha did not make a good start on their return to the IFC ranks when they were well beaten by Longwood and they are up against it again this weekend when they take a talented Oldcastle side.
The north Meath outfit are a very balanced team and they had 12 different scorers in their first-round win over Drumbaragh. They can put a serious dent in Curraha's hopes of a quick return to senior. Meanwhile, Longwood looked strong against Curraha and they will likely make it two wins from two when they face Drumbaragh.
Duleek-Bellewstown got their IFC campaign off to the perfect start when they beat last year's IFC finalists Navan O'Mahonys. They now face Castletown who will be a tough side to get the better of. There won't be much between these two but the impressive nature of Duleek-Bellewstown's performance in round one gives them the edge.
Last year Navan O'Mahonys were inconsistent in the group stage but they still managed to make it all the way to the final. Expect them to bounce back with a win over St Michael's.
There is plenty of local talk about Kilbride this year and they largely backed it up with a strong round one performance against Dunsany.
Anthony Moyles' side should have more than enough for Blackhall Gaels and will, more than likely, make it two wins from two in group D. The 2024 JFC champions Dunsany, despite being largely outplayed, did have some bright spells in their loss to Kilbride and they can keep their knock-out stage hopes alive with a win over Bective.
