Young Musicians from Meath raise funds for LauraLynn Children’s Hospice
Five acts from Meath and Kildare came out for the first ‘Young People for Young People’ gig raising €1565 for LauraLynn's Children's hospice. The event was organised by Kate Prendergast, a fifteen-year-old musician from Meath who invited friends and fellow musicians from Meath Music Generation and the Vocal & Music Academy to help raise funds.
The event took place on Sunday 10th August to raise money to support the hospice and its work helping children with life limiting conditions and their families.
The gig started with three acoustic solo acts. First up was Kate Prendergast who played several of her recent singles such as ‘Ignition’, ‘Lavender Country’ and ‘Past Letters’ which are regularly played on local and national radio stations in Ireland and the United Kingdom. Kate also gave a preview of a new release planned for October.
She was followed by singer-songwriter Jonathan Saunders who played a short set of original songs as well as a beautiful cover of ‘Revival’ by Zack Bryan.
The third solo act was nineteen-year-old Marnie Gilroy who’s rich warm vocals covered a range of mid-Twentieth Century songs from Patsy Cline and Doris Day to Connie Francis.
After a short break and raffle, the pace picked up with a blazing indie-rock performance from Navan-based band Echo Gate. The teen band are releasing their debut single ‘Break’ on 12th September.
Headlining was the Meath band ‘Epiphany’ consisting of Kate Prendergast (vocals and bass), Steven Kerr (lead guitar) Daniel Bellew (rhythm guitar) and Michaela Launspach (drums). This teen rock and roll band covered a number of classics from bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Doors, Wheatus, the Blues Brothers, Chuck Berry and Bryan Adams. They also played an original version of Kate’s single ‘Undergrowth’.
The charity event was attended by over 100 guests, many of whom took up the invitation to tour the walled gardens and lakeside walks at Larchill in the sunny early evening following the gig.
