Navan Pole Dance and High Heels showcase to raise funds for man recovering from stroke
A Navan woman is organising a Pole Dance and High Heels Showcase at the Watergate, Navan, today to raise funds for her brother who is currently recovering from a stroke.
Three months ago 33 year old Pawel Matijczak suffered from a stroke and was in a coma for two weeks. He has no memory of this and when he woke up, he was unable to move his left side. After six weeks in intensive care, he was then moved to a private rehabilitation centre where he is expected to stay until he recovers which will take at least six months.
Recovery is not the only issue he has to deal with as it costs Pawel €350 to stay in the centre every day. To help him with this his sister Marika Chocianowicz started a GoFundMe to pay for the constant costs. Donations started to flood in, but they started to slow down after some time passed and not enough was raised. To keep the donations coming in she decided to use her skills as a competitive pole dancer to organise a Pole Dance and High Heels fundraiser event in Navan.
Marika alongside 14 other dancers will showcase their skills at the Watergate Navan today from 9pm to 11:30pm. This will not only raise funds for Pawel’s recovery also help highlight the artistry and passion of her sport to a Meath audience. Included will be spot prizes, special surprises, and ‘moments of celebration’ during the showcase.
“I thought, I am a dancer and instead of just telling him that I am going to support him, I just to want to turn my passion into a way of supporting him,” Marika said.
“The manager of the venue said if it is successful we might as well do another one, but we will see how it goes.”
Tickets to the event are available here and for anyone who would like to donate to Pawel’s recovery the GoFundMe page is here.
