Meath men lead Ireland to European success

Team Ireland, managed by Trim man Paddy Kelly, celebrated victory at the European Pitch and Putt Championships held over the weekend in Lucan, Dublin. Castletown Pitch and Putt member, Eamon Gibney, was a key member of the side that secured top honours in a historic tournament featuring elite teams from across Europe. The Irish women's team also secured top honours at the competition.

Ireland started the gents competition very well and they raced into a 3-0 lead over Great Britain after a hole-in-one from Gibney on the 18th secured his side a point. They went on to retain their European Title, delivering a dominant performance throughout the championship.

Catalonia finished in second place, while Great Britain claimed third spot on the podium. The Irish squad showcased exceptional talent and unity, affirming their status as Europe’s top team in the sport. Gibney was joined on the victorious Irish squad by Damien Fleming (Deerpark P&P Club, Kerry), Kieran Earls (Bruff P&P Club, Limerick), John Walsh (Collins P&P Club, Cork), Stephen Shoer (Riverdale P&P Club, Tipperary), Stephen O’Reilly (Hillview P&P Club, Tipperary).
