Weather Latest: Status Orange alert in place with persistent rain and flooding expected
*11:30am: FAI Summer Soccer Schools announced the camp will not take place today Due to the extreme weather.
Cúl Camps in Dunshaughlin, Walterstown, Gaeil Colmcille, St Vincent's, Slane, Kildalkey and Dunboyne has also been cancelled due to the weather. Camps will still run for the remainder of the week.
10am: Meath County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team convened this morning (Monday 21 July 2025) and will continue to closely monitor the situation, issuing updates where necessary. At this time, no major issues have been reported.
8am: A Status Orange rain warning for Meath, Dublin, Louth and Wicklow remains in place until 2pm today as persistent rain overnight continues this morning.
Met Éireann is warning of persistent and heavy rain with a chance of thunderstorms that could lead to
• Widespread surface flooding
• Very difficult travelling conditions
• Lightning damage
• Very poor visibility
Meath County Council issues a statement this morning to say its Severe Weather Assessment Team were meeting this morning to assess the situation.
"With the entire county currently issued with an orange weather warning for persistent rain with a chance of thunderstorms, Meath County Council is appealing to the public to exercise extreme caution as travelling conditions may be very difficult including surface flooding and very poor visibility.
"Meath County Council's Severe Weather Assessment Team is convening this morning and will continue to closely monitor the situation, issuing updates where necessary."
Louth County Council’s Severe Weather Action Team convened on Sunday evening and will continue to monitor the situation and issue updates as necessary.
Meath Gardai advised motorists to "exercise extreme caution when travelling on the roads. There will be significant surface water with flooding likely in places and reduced visibility.
"Slow down, take your time and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front."
Later in the afternoon, rain in the east will ease and become patchy, with Met Éireann forecasting highs of 15-20C.
