Fundraiser organised for family of Trim woman who died just two months after giving birth

A special Family Fun Day fundraiser will take place in Athboy later this month in memory of a Trim woman who tragically passed away from brain cancer just two month after the birth of her child.

On Sunday, 27th July 2025 Mellowes Adventure and Childcare Centre will host a very special event in memory of Michelle Bagnall and in support of her husband Oliver following the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife, Michelle who left behind four young children just month after receiving a devastating brain cancer diagnosis.

Michelle was a devoted mother to baby Nico just two months, twins Lucas and Elijah (4), and Joseph (10) when she passed away. With Oliver now a full-time carer, unable to continue his self-employed work, the support of the community has never been more important.

Michelle was just like any other mother at crèche; smiling, juggling snacks and school runs, raising three beautiful boys with another baby on the way. She was full of life, love, and laughter.

During her pregnancy she felt unwell and a scan in December 2024 revealed the unthinkable, Michelle had multiple tumors on her brain which were cancerous and terminal.

In a matter of weeks, Michelle and her husband Oliver were faced with an impossible decision—bring baby Nico into the world early to give him a chance at life, knowing Michelle’s time was running out.

the community is coming together in memory of Michelle and to support the Bagnall family by running a special event at Mellowes Adventure and Childcare Centre

Baby Nico was born on the 9th of January 2025 with Michelle passing away on the 11th March 2025 aged 40, just two months after Nico’s birth.

In the wake of this unimaginable loss, Oliver has become a full-time carer for their four young children, loosing his self-employed status.

Now, the community is coming together in memory of Michelle and to support the Bagnall family by running a special event at Mellowes Adventure and Childcare Centre:

"This day is more than a fundraiser – it’s a heartfelt celebration of Michelle’s life, her love, and the joy she brought to those around her," said a spokesperson for the event.

"Mellowes Adventure and Childcare Centre will shine even brighter on this special day, as families and friends gather in memory and celebration," they added.

"We’re aiming to raise €15,000 to help support the Bagnall family during this incredibly difficult time. We’re calling on our past and present families, businesses and the wider community to help reach this target."

The packed schedule includes live performances from Matt Leavy, Tina Lynagh & Twist of Fate, and Brian Mullen Music. There is fun for all the family planned including bouncy castles and numerous other activities including pedal go-karts, mini golf, pirate ship, sand house, play towers, parachute games, fun races, tug of war, Disney characters, mini disco, spot prizes and more!

The event is already receiving support from a number of generous local businesses and the organisers hope even more local companies, community groups, and individuals will join in to support the cause.

"We’re thrilled to already have the support of generous local businesses including, Specsavers Navan, McGuigan Solicitors, Millbrook Foods, Darnley Lodge Hotel. Their involvement is helping us build momentum and we’d love to see even more businesses, clubs, and organisations join in.

"Let’s come together to support this wonderful family and show the strength of our community. Together, we can turn a time of sorrow into a celebration of love, resilience, and hope."
