Summerhill
There was sadness, but also a celebration of a long life, following the passing of Moira Alice Lynch, peacefully at her home on New Road, Summerhill, on 16th May last, aged 95 years.
Moira came from a farming background with retail experience at a young age as her parents, Joseph and Alice (nee Mulvany) Lynch, ran a grocery and animal feedstuffs shop during and after the war years, at Belper, Tara. Her secondary education was in Eccles Street, Dublin, and from there, progressed to study until her graduation from the College of Pharmacy.
Moira served as an apprentice in Reilly's Medical Hall, Navan, and following her graduation and apprenticeship, married Johnny Lynch from Macetown, Tara, a member of a large and well-known family.
The newly weds went to live in Kilskrye, with Moira’s uncle, retired school principal Martin Lynch, and in 1964, Moira and Johnny moved to Summerhill where Moira opened her own pharmacy and her service to the community was far-reaching. Her involvement in the community extended beyond her profession; her strong faith led to her crocheted work on display on the right side aisle wall in Dangan’s Our Lady of Lourdes Church, of a lace version of The Lord's Prayer. She was an avid supporter of sports, a keen card player, and was a regular whist player in Summerhill Community Centre. The family paid tribute to the many great people who supported Moira.
She was the last surviving member of the family of Joe and Alice Lynch.
Moira was predeceased by her husband, Johnny, in August 2006, and by her daughter, Noeleen, in January 1994. Moira is survived by her family, Marian Kerrigan, Martin, Liz Morris, Anthony, John, and Fergal; daughters-in-law, Suzanne, Caroline, Susan, and Trish; 16 grandchildren; sons-in-law, Mattie Kerrigan and Ricky Morris; nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Tony, Willie, Joan, and Maurice, whose wife Peg of Belper, Tara, died on 24th April last.
Her funeral Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Dangan, Summerhill, celebrated by Fr Yohanna Jacob and Fr Sam Mann CSSP, was followed by burial in adjoining cemetery.
