Former Local Election candidate targeted with abusive leaflets
A former Local Election candidate claims he is the subject of a “clear political grudge” after a leaflet containing abusive content including that he be run out of Kells was found to be circulating around Kells
The leaflet titled ‘Wake Up Kells’ was seen in the Kells area in recent days with the opening line saying “Cormac Corr is a long streak of misery and destruction”. It continued to say people in the local area were scared to speak up about him and ended its tirade saying “Run Him Out.”
Cormac Corr said the claims are "baseless and inflammatory” and he will be seeking legal advice on the issue due to the nature of the comments.
Corr said he was busy with work on the beginning of the Hinterland Festival in Kells when he was notified of the leaflet and received “30 plus messages” regarding it. He said complaint will be made to gardai later today regarding the incident.
“I am also disappointed that this clear political grudge, held by an incredibly small group of people, has chosen to manifest itself during the Hinterland Festival," he said.
"The last thing this town needs is for visitors to be exposed to the strange and backward political vendetta that appears to exist against myself and my supporters.
“I am never going to apologise for wanting what is best for the town or for the wider North Meath area. I intend to continue fighting for decent, meaningful change locally.
"And the last thing that’s going to stop me from doing that is anonymous propaganda.”
Corr (24), who ran as an Independent candidate in the local elections for the Kells area in June 2024 also received an anonymous handwritten letter at that time demanding he quit politics or he would "meet a bad accident" at his next public clinic.
