'Retired, not expired'... Reunion of former Tara Mines workers

A REUNION was held at the residence of retired Tara Mines mine captain Jim Brennan who worked with the company for 30 years.

Fifty-five retired mine shift bosses gathered on Saturday 14th June to celebrate decades of hard work at the mines. With some mine shift bosses having worked there for 40 years, most of the men are in their mid 70s to early 80s now.

Mine captain Jim Brennan said: "This reunion was something I have wanted to do for a while as we all worked together for so long.

“Everything about working down in the mines involved teamwork."

A slideshow over an hour long was made and dedicated to those who worked with the team but passed away, including seven mine captains and 15 shift bosses.
