Closure order for Ashbourne food company

An Ashbourne catering company was one of ten food business issued with closure orders by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) during the month of May for breaches of food safety legislation.

Kerala Royal Caters (Service Sector), Unit 27C, Ashbourne Business Centre, Ballybin Road, Ashbourne was issued with the closure order on 30th May.

Reasons given for the serving of the order were unhygienic conditions.

According to an inspectors report; "The premises was not clean at the time of inspection. Food contact surfaces, food storage containers, equipment and utensils were found to be in an unhygienic condition."

The report said there was evidence that regular systematic cleaning is not carried out and food workers demonstrated unsafe handling practices and a lack of food safety knowledge.

Mr Greg Dempsey, Chief Executive, FSAI, warned that all food businesses have a legal obligation to ensure the food they sell is safe to eat.

“The high number of Enforcement Orders in May is disappointing," he said.
