National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards applications open
Applications have opened for the annual National Age Friendly Recognition and Achievement Awards for organisations, agencies, and members of the public helping to make Ireland a great place to grow old.
Age Friendly Ireland helps cities, counties, towns and villages across Ireland prepare for the rapid ageing of our population. Age friendly programmes work to provide age friendly environments, housing and transportation options, access to key services and opportunities for older people to participate in community activities.
“Now in its 9th year, we want to continue to shine a light on projects that make a difference for others, while also showcasing how other organisations can implement similar initiatives,” said Chief Officer of Age Friendly Ireland Catherine McGuigan.
“Each project counts in our journey of creating an inclusive Ireland for all, so if you have a project that you would like to put forward, we would love to hear from you.”
There are eight categories of awards which align to the World Health Organisation (WHO) themes because of the meaningful impact they have on older people in Ireland.
The categories are:
1. Age Friendly Transport Award
2. Age Friendly Active and Healthy Ageing Award
3. Age Friendly Business Innovation Award
4. Age Friendly Safety and Security Award
5. Age Friendly Communications Award
6. Age Friendly Environment Award
7. Age Friendly Community Innovation Award
8. Age Friendly Housing Award
The deadline for applications is 30th May and initiatives at both a local and national level are welcome. The Age Friendly Recognition and Achievements Awards ceremony will be held in the Galmont Hotel, Galway on 23rd October 2025.
