Body recovered from the Boyne as search for missing man stood down

Following the discovery of a body in the River Boyne in Trim this evening, the search for a missing man has been stood down.

Meath River Rescue members recovered a body from the water one week after a major search operation began for Sean Connaghan, reported missing last Thursday.

A Garda statement this evening read: "Following the discovery of a man’s body, the missing person appeal for Sean Connaghan, 24-years-old, who was reported missing from Trim, Co. Meath, since Thursday, 24th April 2025, has been stood down."

"An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance."

Meath River Rescue said: "Thank you to all of our volunteers who were involved in the search over the past week and to the members of the public and other search organisations

"We would like to acknowledge the support from the members of the public, local businesses and all other rescue teams who came together.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends."

In a statement this evening, Meath Civil Defence said: "The search in Trim has been stood down following the recovery of a body this afternoon by members of Meath River Rescue. We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased's family and friends. May he Rest in Peace"

Sean Connaghan

Hundreds of people have been out helping in the search for Sean Connaghan missing from Trim since Thursday last.

Crews from the Garda Underwater Team, Meath River Rescue, Meath Civil Defence and Boyne Fishermen had been assisted by large volunteer land search teams and drone operators in an effort to trace the missing man.

Meath West TD Johnny Guirke who let his Trim constituency office be used as a base to coordinate the search operation paid his respects to the local rescue organisations in the county in the Dail today.

"This Labour Day, I want to highlight who the real heroes are the workers and our volunteers.

"Over the past week in Trim, Meath, I’ve seen the Civil Defence, Meath River Rescue, Boyne Fisherman Rescue and Recovery and many volunteers giving their time selflessly to assist in a search.They deserve our deepest respect."
