From Traitors to Trail Run ... 10th Slane Castle 5km Run/Walk returns
The 10th ‘Slane Castle 5km Trail Run/Walk’ will take place on Sunday 11th of May in the beautiful grounds of Slane Castle, with a starting line ready for take off at 9.30am sharp.
The 5km route itself is completely within the breathtaking castle estate that was revealed last week by RTE to be the location for filming hit TV show, The Traitors which will hit screens later this year.
Two weeks ago the Meath Chronicle led its front page with news that the nailbiting hit series was indeed in Slane despite production crews' attempts to keep filming top secret.
This is a real opportunity for everyone regardless of ability or fitness level to experience the magnificent surrounds of Slane Castle and includes the scenic forest trail along the River Boyne.
Keatings Oil has been announced as the main sponsor for this popular event which saw over 400 participants (adults & children) take part in 2024.
The event, now in its tenth year is organised by The parents’ association of St Patrick's National School, Slane, along with help from Meath Local Sports Partnership, Slane Castle and the Civil Defence. This fun family day has become the much anticipated annual school fundraiser with all proceeds going towards the development of the outdoor learning spaces at Slane NS.
The principal of St Patrick’s, Paul O’Donnell, along with the staff and pupils of the school, are partaking and enjoying fun training in preparation for the big day. All members of the community and the wider catchment area (young, old, past and present pupils) are encouraged to take part in this event.
Alex Mountcharles was thrilled to welcome back the 5km Trail Run/Walk and said how delighted he was to have supported this “fantastic community event” since its inception in 2015, and looks forward to welcoming all of the runners, joggers and walkers to enjoy the castle grounds this coming May 11th.
There are t-shirts for the first 200 adults (on the day) and the first 200 U16’s. There are also finishing medals for the first 400 over the line. After race refreshments and home baked goods will be available free of charge to all who support the event.
