Lives Remembered: Teacher and urban councillor with love of community
Niamh Daly - Kells
Niamh Daly, John Street, Kells, who died on 5th January last, aged 89, was a Kells native who loved being involved in every aspect of the local community. She worked tirelessly as a Fine Gael urban district councillor for the Kells community in the late 1970s and early 1980s, and loved every minute of it.
Niamh was a former teacher in Eureka Secondary School, Kells, Kells VEC, and St Oliver’s Post Primary School in Oldcastle. She was a member of the Kells Choir, the Kells Horticultural Society, the Kells Arts Group and Kells Meals on Wheels. She was an avid golfer and was an honorary member, past lady captain and lady president of Headfort Golf Club, Kells. She also enjoyed travelling, reading, theatre, politics, walking, beekeeping and socialising.
Niamh lived her life with wit, warmth and good humour and filled every minute with generosity, energy and grace. Her love of life and zest for adventure meant that she left a lovely positive lasting impression on everyone she met. She will be very much missed by her family and friends.
Daughter of the late Tony and Máire Conlan, she was predeceased by her grandson, Ian; sister, Jean Duignan; and her brother, Aidan.
She is survived by her husband, Dr Bernard Daly; family, Brian, Celbridge, Co Kildare, John, Kells, Jim Daly, Athlumney, Navan, Niall, Glasnevin, Dublin, Maura Daly, Kells; brothers, Tom Conlan, Foxrock, Dublin and John Conlan, Glasnevin, Dublin; sister, Anita Conlan, Clontarf, Dublin; grandchildren; extended family; and her wide circle of friends.
Her funeral took place from St Colmcille's Church to St Colmcille's Cemetery, Kells.
