Works to resume on refurbishment of Enfield's former parish hall

Work on the second phase of the refurbishment of the former parish hall in Enfield to transform it into a multi-purpose community centre is due to commence this month.

Trim-based firm Showglade Ltd won the tender for the works and Enfield Development Group confirmed last week on its Facebook page that work is due to start on 24th March and should be completed by the end of the year.

While the first phase of works to the former St Patrick's Hall to replace windows and paint the building has been completed for a number of years, the tenders for the second main phase to include major mechanical and electrical upgrades came back far in excess of the funding available at the time and the project stalled as Enfield Development Group and Meath Co Council worked together to find with a solution.

This involved Meath Co Council purchasing the hall from Enfield Development Group with the proceeds of the sale being reinvested in the refurbishment, together with an application for more funding under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme with €500,000 was announced towards the project by then Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys last year.

Last week, sharing the news that work is about to commence, Enfield Development Group wrote: "We're thrilled to share a major milestone in the Parish Hall transformation.

"Yesterday, we attended the post-tender/pre-contract meeting with our architect Patrick Gilsenan, representatives from Meath County Council, and Showglade Ltd, the Trim-based company that won the tender for the refurbishment. The final paperwork is now being completed, so....mark your calendars! Work is set to begin on March 24th, with completion expected by early December 2025. This brings us closer to turning the old Parish Hall into a vibrant, multi-purpose community facility for everyone in Enfield."

EDG went on say the project wouldn't be possible without the support of many people thanked Patrick Gilsenan of PG Architects for supporting them on their journey since 2019; Meath County Council for their guidance, technical expertise, and financial support; local councillors and Meath West TDs (past & present); The Department of Rural and Community Development for funding and local businesses and the Enfield community for their ongoing support and encouragement.

"This is your community space, and we can’t wait to see it come to life!”
