Fever pitch: Thrilling weekend of action ahead as hurling takes centre stage

GAA Thrilling weekend of action ahead as hurling takes centre stage

The football championships certainly hit fever pitch at the weekend with the finalists of each of the flagship competitions cementing their place in the deciders following a number of all-action thrilling contests. The best was certainly saved until last as Wolfe Tones and Skryne served up an absolute cracker that ebbed one way before flowing the other and ending in drama the likes of which we've rarely seen before.

When the dust finally settled on the pulsating semi-final it was Wolfe Tones who prevailed and they marched on to face Dunshaughlin who survived a stern test of their mettle from St Peter's, but came out with flying colours. Saturday's semi-final between Dunshaughlin and St Peter's was billed as the glamour game of the weekend, but it turned out to be more of a butting of head, an intriguing contest that would have pleased those of a more tactical persuasion.

St Peter's were left to rue several squandered chances and when Donal Lenihan's late long range free curled just wide it ensured Dunshaughlin survived.

In the IFC Meath Hill advanced following a tempestuous affair against Ballivor, while O'Mahonys had enough to see off Castletown.

Dunsany advanced to their ninth JFC final in their history and they will have to see off St Vincent's in the decider if they are to finally win one.

There is no rest for Carnaross or St Vincent's as they have less than a week to prepare for Junior B FC final at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday. The highlight of the weekend ahead is the SHC final clash of Trim and Ratoath in Pairc Tailteann on Sunday, while the Ladies SFC final is also on Saturday in Pairc Tailteann at 3.30pm.
