Cahill's super saves help Seagulls take flight

Some days, or nights, in young sportsperson's life can be special. Magical.

Goalkeeper Killian Cahill had one of his most memorable outings with Brighton & Hove Albion teams so far this week when he made not one but two penalty saves in a cup shoot-out.

Cahill, who is from Skryne, was part of the Brighton u-21 team that took on Woking in the National League Cup.

In what was clearly a classic, good old, up-and-at-'em cup encounter the teams fought hard to get an extra edge.

When all the action was over in terms of open play the scoreboard read: 2-2. It was onto to the dreaded penalty shoot-out to try and find a winner.

It was then Cahill took centre-stage making his two crucial stops. Brighton won the shoot-out 4-3 to advance.

A former student at St Pat's, Navan Cahill was on the books at Shamrock Rovers before he was signed by the Seagulls. The south coast club clearly felt he has what it takes to reach the top.

In August Cahill was included in the Republic of Ireland u-21 squad by manager Jim Crawford for UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Turkey and Latvia. Thjat too was a significant moment for him although he's no stranger to international camps.

Included in the squad also was another Meath goalkeeper, Josh Keeley, who was signed by Spurs and is on loan with Orient and Sam Curtis, the Sheffield Utd full-back who is also on loan with Peterborough Utd.

Cahill hopefully will go to make a big impact at Brighton and in his career overall but whatever happens it's likely he will always remember the night when he became a hero and saved two penalties to help his team across the line.
